Samolaco (Lombard: Samolegh or Samolagh) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Sondrio in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of the regional capital Milan and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Sondrio. As of 31 December 2005, it had a population of 2,913 and an area of 44.5 square kilometres (17.2 mi2). The territory of the comune, mostly mountainous, includes of a number of small centres of population, notably Casenda, Era, Giumello, San Pietro
