Beyond the City of Arts and Sciences, the province of Valencia hides abandoned places loaded with history: the oldest train station still standing in Spain, a ruined children's psychiatric hospital among orange groves, an old cement works above the A-3 and even a ghost village that reappears when the reservoir drops. Our map gathers thousands of abandoned places in the Valencian Community, and these five come from it.
We picked 5 abandoned places near Valencia for 2026, all verified. Under each entry, an "Add to my map" button saves the GPS coordinates to your account, free and no card required. Free urbex Valencia: why Urbex Maps changes the rules
Most lists end in a closed group where coordinates are handed out "through contacts". We put an "Add to my map" button under every place that saves the GPS point to your account, free and no card required, in your personal space. Behind it is a community of over 40,000 explorers since 2021, and every coordinate is verified at least twice. The free spots are free; the paid packs fund the moderation.
Why some places are not on this list
Let's be honest: several famous places are no longer ruins. Bombas Gens is now an art center, the Fuente Podrida spa is still running as a hotel, and the Fontilles sanatorium is still in operation. The Alquería del Moro is left out because of its uncertain state. Here we only keep what is genuinely still abandoned in 2026.
1. Estación del Grau: the oldest standing station in Spain

In the Grau district, next to the port of Valencia, the old Estación del Grau survives. Opened in 1852 on the Valencia-Xàtiva line, it was the third station to enter service on the peninsula (after Barcelona-Mataró and Madrid-Aranjuez) and the oldest one still standing in Spain.
Its rail traffic stopped around 2004-2005 and it has been abandoned ever since, with bricked-up doors and windows and leaks inside. In November 2024, ADIF handed it over for free to Valencia city council for a future cultural use, so it is abandoned but with a restoration future agreed upon. More places on our Valencia urbex map.
2. Cheste Psychiatric Hospital: a children's hospital among orange groves
On the edge of Cheste (province of Valencia), near the Ricardo Tormo circuit and surrounded by orange fields, sits the old children's psychiatric hospital "La Humanitat". It was a care center for children with mental disabilities, founded by a parents' association and opened in the early 1970s.
It ran for about thirty years and closed around 2001-2003, when its patients moved to a new hospital nearby. It has been in ruins ever since: collapsed roofs, blown-out walls and graffiti. It is municipal property and access is dangerous. More places on our Valencia urbex map.
3. Old Buñol cement works: the giant above the A-3
On a hill visible from the A-3 motorway, next to Buñol (province of Valencia), stands the old "Valenciana de Cementos" cement factory. The Compañía Valenciana de Cementos Portland was founded in 1917 working a limestone quarry, and grew into one of the largest cement makers in Spain.
The old factory closed in the 1980s, when a new plant opened next door, and it has been a standing industrial wasteland ever since: steel framework, horizontal kilns, a laboratory and tunnels. It is under long-term threat of demolition, so make the most of it while it is still there. Don't confuse it with the neighboring modern cement works, which is still active. 4. Taller del Alemán: the ruined tower of Sagunto
At the southern entrance to Sagunto (Camp de Morvedre), wedged between the N-340 and the railway line, sits the Götz workshop, known as "the German's workshop". It was built in the mid-1960s by Francisco Götz, of German origin, in an industrial rationalist style, mainly to repair trucks from the N-340.
It has been abandoned for over twenty years and declared a ruin, with its emblematic tower (an old nighttime landmark) still standing and its windows broken. Access is very dangerous, with beams hanging in the central hall. More places on our Valencia urbex map.
5. Domeño Viejo: the village of the reservoir
In the Los Serranos region (province of Valencia), on the edge of the Loriguilla reservoir, lie the ruins of Domeño Viejo. In 1955 a dam was approved that threatened the village, and in 1959 the residents were moved to a new Domeño on the Plana de Cuart.
After the move, the army used the site for maneuvers and demolished almost all the houses, so today it is more a field of ruins than a standing village: what mostly survives are the ruins of the Moorish castle of Domeño (BIC) on a hilltop, the old cemetery and remains of the chapel. It is a ghost village to walk through with respect. More places on our Valencia urbex map.
